The Bench
The bench is made of Lebanese Cypress from The Arboretum, which died in the great storm of 2011.Stephan Roggenbuck bought the wood from Eric Zammit, a local artist. He has much gratitude for the death of this tree, as it allowed him to create the rebirth and renewal of its existence.This bench represents both his passion for Mother Earth and his values of sustainable living.

Stephan was born in northern Germany in a tiny town called Lingen, surrounded by cows, farms and stone houses. HIS LOVE AFFAIR WITH WOOD started at the age of 17 when he began an apprenticeship as a woodworker with a local master as part of a larger three year fine furniture program, graduated with extensive knowledge of German master craftsmanship under his belt.
Then he studied ARCHITECTURE, SCULPTURE and ANTHROPOSOPHIC PHILOSOPHY after which he created independent fine furniture company in the Black Forest for 8 years. During that time he was part of the team that CREATED 10 RETAIL STORES for the largest natural food store chain in Germany, Alnatura, working with the green designer Achim Hacken. In addition, he participated as a builder and DESIGN CONSULTANT for the anthroposophic theatre scale in Basel, Switzerland, the Waldorf School of Waldkirch, and a number other high profile, green projects.
Today, as a founder of Conscious Wood Work based in Los Angeles, his work is influenced by natural elements, EUROPEAN ART DECO, and JAPANESE CRAFTSMANSHIP to create custom furnitures, retail spaces, private residences and his first love, fine furniture making within SPIRITUAL ASPECT of loving wood work. He uses all organic and natural methods and materials.
When approaching a new project, his vision includes creating an organic flow for the space or piece, and accentuating natural light and grains while addressing the UNIQUE NEEDS of each client. THE PASSION for his work, materials, and the planet shine through each and every one of his creations.
